Xiaomi to make its own chipsets for Mi phones: Report
Xiaomi is reportedly working on its own processors and may announce them by early 2016
Xiaomi is reportedly working on its own independent processor. According to GizmoChina, the new chipsets are expected to launch early 2016. This could be a big blow to Qualcomm and MediaTek whose processors are seen in Xiaomi’s devices right now.
The rumours are that Xiaomi will unveil two independent processors. The first one will be a low-end chip for its Redmi series of smartphones while the second one will be a higher end octa-core chip, that will be designed for its mid-range devices.
Xiaomi’s low end devices use MediaTek processors now while mid-range and flagship devices sport Qualcomm chipsets. GizmoChina notes that, “Premium devices like the Xiaomi Mi Note and Mi 5 will most likely use Qualcomm’s flagship chipsets.”
With an independently developed processor, Xiaomi can lower the prices of its devices even further and could be a viable option for even larger audience in the low-price segment.
