According to 6W research, the video surveillance market in India is expected to reach approximately 953 million USD by this year and expected to hit 2.4 billion USD by 2020. The total video surveillance storage market is expected to be worth $6.5 billion by 2019.

Analog based surveillance systems

These systems have accounted for the majority of the share with nearly 68% in the overall market. Tyagi is Director-Business Development, Channel and OEM Sales, SanDisk.

He also said that In India, Government and private companies also prefer to install analogue CCTV solutions. However, there is a steady shift happening from analog based surveillance to IP based surveillance which will certainly require System Integrators (SIs) specializing in core networking to software systems.

Cautious enterprises

When it come to enterprise segment, Tyagi told that SanDisk is also seeing a growing demand from enterprise security buyers in India. “Organizations are recognizing that while preventive approaches to information security are certainly important, they are now no longer sufficient. Organizations also need to focus on continuous monitoring and quick response as a central component of their security strategy. Today, as IT gets more and more complex and data theft and hacks are occurring all around us, security needs to be amped up to keep up with the ever evolving threats,” he added.

Video Analytics for Digital India

According to Tyagi, video surveillance sector is seeing emergence of new markets adopting it. Government is one of the major sectors that has begun utilizing video surveillance. “To ensure the safety and security of Indian citizens, the Indian Government has set up surveillance cameras at most railway stations, housing estates, traffic signals and other public places. India is also witnessing a surge in the use of video surveillance in sectors like banking and financial, hospitality, transportation, education and retail,” he said.

Tyagi also pointed that that along with these trends video analytics has become an important part of video surveillance solutions. Potential of video surveillance in terms of Digital India and Smart Cities

Smart cities are hotbeds for economic growth and innovation, however, with growth also come security threats in various forms. Therefore, it is important for a city to be equipped with monitoring mechanisms and safety systems like IP based video surveillance. A smart city essentially has to be a safe city. Apart from focusing on security, video surveillance in smart cities can also be used for traffic management which will help to decongest traffic and also monitor safety of vehicles on the road, according to Tyagi.

“Cities in India are rapidly putting in place security measures to create a safe environment. Cities like Pune, Mumbai and Surat, have extensively installed CCTV cameras at important public places to monitor crime,” he added.

Video surveillance storage market and solutions

A new market report by MarketsandMarkets estimates that the video surveillance storage market is expected to reach USD 18.28 billion by 2020. Some of the basic requirements in storage from video surveillance systems are- scalability, easy storage and retrieval of data and ability to handle different resolutions of video.

While speakinh about the industry solutions to cater such demand, Tyagi told about various solution offer by SanDisk. Such as the company offers a portfolio of automotive and industrial grade solutions. SanDisk Industrial SD and microSD cards deliver edge storage solutions for industrial applications which require high reliability, durability, and high intensity recording, across a wide range of operational requirements. These high endurance solutions offer extended product life cycles, which can reduce total cost of ownership per system by eliminating costly redesigns and re-qualifications, and minimizing unnecessary maintenance calls.

SanDisk recently enhanced its portfolio of SanDisk industrial solutions with the latest generation of Industrial and Industrial XT cards. SanDisk industrial solutions are designed and optimized for use in a variety of market segments that demand high endurance, including industrial IoT gateways, commercial security cameras, commercial drones, police body cameras, various factory applications, industrial computing, robotics, point-of-sale solutions, large-scale printing, and many others.

SanDisk industrial SD cards are removable and swappable, providing commercial users the flexibility to quickly load or update large quantities of data, and enable easy maintenance and configuration.
