“Hinged Devices”- Microsoft’s Latest Patent Filed
A flexible device, similar to surface duo’s design, was found in Microsoft’s recent patent publication.
Microsoft adds to its patent list with its application for ‘hinged devices’ with a flexible display patent. Discovered by WindowsUnited, the patent was filed in May 2019 and just got published. October of 2019 saw Microsoft announcing ‘Surface Duo’, an android device that comes with a 360-degree hinge.
For Surface Duo, there are two 5.6” displays which move on the hinge and hence, allow the user to use it in different modes. The design may be the same but Microsoft teases with the patent application as it could be anything- a mobile or laptop.
As per the patent description, the design might reflect surface duo but the device is going to have two portions and a single display. Microsoft has also included a cord that will adjust the length according to the flexible display. The two portions will be rotating on the hinge axis and cord to support the device.

The year 2019 witnessed a lot of companies experimenting with foldable designs as they are bound to make a comeback this decade. Microsoft has chosen to have a dual-screen design to be on the safer side. The problem of cost and durability comes in with flexible displays that are otherwise easy with fixed screens.
