Prithvi Information Solutions targets the elite bracket

Prithvi Information Solutions, a Rs 858 million IT solutions and services provider is in expansion mode and hopes to compete with tier 1 companies like IBM, Cisco and Oracle within the next four years.By Durba Ghosh

The company, which started by servicing the telecom and IT sector in 1998, has forked its services into other critical sectors including healthcare, retail and banking today. Prithvi has expanded its IT services portfolio to include managed services, mobile computing applications, information analytics and data center management, with a view to be present in every critical enterprise operation. It delivers solutions to various businesses through SAP ERP, Oracle Financials and other platforms.

“We are a tier 2 company, our goal is to move into the top tier. We want to be close to tier 1 companies in next three to four years. Revenue-wise, I don’t know if we will be able to do it. However, in terms of credibility, we see our company in the tier 1 bracket,” said Amitava Lahiri, Head of IT Services, Prithvi Information Solutions.

The company’s Indian operations currently account for close to 25% of its global numbers. Like with other software exporters, the bulk of its revenue comes from the US. The company is now looking to boost its presence in India and change the revenue split to favor the domestic market.

“India is one of our key growth areas. Although it is not generating significant revenues as of yet, it definitely has the potential to do so,” said Lahiri.

The IT services company intends to target the Indian operations of its US clients. It has already signed many contracts with multinational companies that are setting shop in India.  It plans to replicate its success in the managed services space in the US in the domestic market as well.

Dabbling with new services
The Hyderabad-based IT solution provider recently ventured into servicing clients using Oracle’s performance management software, Hyperion. It is now adding muscle through strategic alliances and channel partners. It started operating its Hyperion Center of Excellence last year. “Every company is going for this product when it comes to EPM. It makes business sense for us to target clients who use Hyperion,” he said.

The company terms Oracle software as critical for its business. It is now looking at consolidating all of its Oracle-related services, including Oracle SOA, under one unit. Prithvi Solutions said that it had significant traction in Oracle SOA and Oracle Financials.

Prithvi Solutions is targeting revenues of close to $1 billion by 2013. It aims to double its revenues from India on the back of advanced data services that are fueling the ongoing information explosion and e-Governance initiatives in the country. It has already developed capabilities for managing data centers in order to cash in on various State Data Center projects.

Of 12 data centers that have been commissioned under the SDC project to date, Prithvi Solutions has bagged contracts in about four states, including Nagaland and Maharashtra. The company said that it had bid for all the state data centers that were expected to come up and that it might win about three more contracts in this space.

It also expected other government projects such as State Wide Area Networks (SWANs) and Common Service Centers (CSC) being set up across the country to add to its revenues in the near future.

It has also set up an analytics team to cater to the emerging Big Data opportunity. “India hasn’t caught up on Big Data as yet but companies are trying to modernize their IT infrastructure, which is increasing the need for information analysis,” commented Lahiri.
The company has also been working on developing mobile applications for the enterprise segment. “We are betting big on mobile computing. We will develop applications to target this opportunity,” he said.

It has already developed applications for iOS and BlackBerry and is now developing applications on Android and Windows Phone as well. “We are keeping our eyes open for new areas to venture into. We wish to be an end-to-end IT solutions provider across sectors. We will do that alongside building our credibility,” Lahiri concluded.
