All households in Meghalaya have been successfully covered under the Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana scheme, Chief Secretary P B O Wajri said.
“All 11 districts comprising of 5,53,279 households have been covered under the PMJDY scheme launched in August last year,” Warjri said while addressing a state level bankers’ committee meeting held here.
Till January 21, 1,34,373 new accounts were opened and 1,16,366 Rupay cards were issued under the scheme, he said.
He, however, expressed concern at the deteriorating credit deposit ratio and slow progress in granting PMEGP loans and the need for more financial literacy camps by all banks.
State Bank of India DGM Deepak Lalla assured that efforts would be put to address the concern of the state relating to the CD ration and PMEGP scheme.
He said the banks stand to benefit due to the accumulation of deposits in these accounts opened under the scheme especially with the second phase of routing of government payments like the NREGA, food subsidy and gas subsidy.
