eGovWatch: Gujarat CM set to flag off free WiFi service at Vyara

Vyara nagarpalika in Tapi district of South Gujarat will offer free Wi-Fi for half an hour a day to its residents from May 1, when the services will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on the occasion of Gujarat’s foundation day.

The Vyara Nagarpalika has signed up a private firm Smart Link solutions of Valsad to provide free Internet and has laid out fibre optic cables in Vyara. The users have to submit mobile numbers and name to access the services.

Chief Officer of Vyara Nagarpalika Mitul Patel said, “We have identified 10 different locations in the entire town where the user can use the free Wi-fi, for half an hour. The places are near schools, Nagar Palika, hospitals, colleges, main market area etc. We have signed a contract with Smart Link solutions, a company based in Valsad, to whom the Nagarpalika will pay Rs 12.50 lakh (which includes installations costs) in the first year. As per the performance we will continue the service in coming years.”

Rajesh Panwala from Smart Link Solutions said, “The maximum speed of the Internet is 512 kbps. Later, as per the demand and requirement of Nagarpalika, we will increase the number of destinations in Vyara. All the work has been completed and we have also done trial runs.”

Vyara Nagarpalika president Mahesh Dodhia said, “We have decided to give free Wi-fi to the people of Vyara seeing that the Internet has become a necessity nowadays. The students and professionals will benefit the most. At present, we have fixed half an hour of free Internet per day and later, we will increase the time period.”
