eGovWatch: Gurgaon police launches WhatsApp helpline

Gurgaon police’s latest initiative, a WhatsApp helpline service – 8586976050 —, is getting a good reponse from the public.

Since its launch on Monday, the number has received over 400 complaints, mostly related to passport verification and traffic issues.

The helpline was launched with the aim of providing public with a direct medium to register complaints with the Gurgaon police.

Gurgaon police commissioner Alok Mittal said, “Since its launch on Monday, the service has received about 400 messages. People have also sent around 20 messages relating to traffic rules violations. Some have even attached images of these violations.”

The helpline is being handled by the commissioner himself.

Police got cracking on the complaints, with traffic inspectors being directed to take prompt action against violators.

The helpline also received complaints regarding wrongful parking, traffic snarls and passport verification issues.
