Punjab Government has invited e-tender to install CCTV cameras in the roadways buses and at the bus stands with an aim to provide better security to commuters.
“In the initial stage there is a proposal to install cameras and digital video recorders in 100 buses, 18 depots and three bus stands,” a spokesperson of the Transport Department said.
“E-tender has been invited from the reputed registered firms/companies for this purpose,” he said.
Notably,on April 29, a woman and her teenage daughter were allegedly molested and thrown off a running bus in Moga, leaving the girl dead and mother seriously wounded.
“The department had decided to install the cameras which would act as a deterrent to such cases,” the spokesman added.
There are nearly 90 bus stands in the state while over 3,000 Punjab Roadways and Punbus buses ply on the roads.
