Google’s new food images features will be part of Maps and available to those registered as local guides.
Google has been testing a new Maps app feature that will detect when food photos are taken at restaurants and will offer to attach these photos to the establishment’s location.
A report on Android Police, said that the feature will roll out to “local guides ‘level 3 and above’ first.” Local guides are those who are part of the community of reviewers on Google. Local guides as the name suggests write reviews for businesses in their areas and the more reviews one writes, the more the benefits. Level 3 and above would be people who have written more than 50 reviews.
The feature will essentially alert a person when they take a picture at the food related place and will ask if that photo can be attached to the location. Users should note that the photograph will be public and for all to see.
According to The Verge, Google had earlier tried experimental food photography service called Tablescape but shut down the app in June. However Google had made it clear the end of Tablescape did not mean that it would stop looking at the idea of incorporating food photography into its services.
