India has the “best software development capabilities” according to Zhao Gang, who heads the global Honor business of Huawei. The Chinese technology major is launching its new Honor 7 smartphone in India with some features developed locally.
In fact, the 3000-strong Huawei R&D team in Bangalore is the company’s largest anywhere in the world. About a tenth of this team is working on the Honor brand. The Honor 7 will have an SOS feature developed by this team, which will later be available in other Honor devices. “This feature is unique and will be completely customizable by user right from which button to use to what the panic button will stand for,” said P Sanjeev, head of Huawei’s devices business in India.
Zhao, who was in New Delhi to launch the new Honor 7 smartphone, said a lot of the features developed in India will be rolled out for global markets.
