Lava strengthens its business operations with IBM Cloud

Lava International Ltd (Lava), an Indian mobile handset company, has selected IBM SmartCloud Virtualized Server Recovery (VSR) services, a cloud-based disaster recovery solution, to ensure continuous business operations, manage costs and improve overall resiliency.

Founded in 2009, Lava quickly has emerged as a dominant player in the mobile handset market in India, growing its revenue by 15% a month to become one of the top three Indian brands over a period of just three years. Today, Lava offers a wide product portfolio that encompasses tablets, feature phones and smart phones having various models in bar and touch form factor at multiple price points to suit all categories of consumers.

IBM’s SmartCloud VSR services provide world-class automation and cloud tools to help businesses facilitate quicker recovery time and increase reliability of their server recovery. Lava now has a back up option to support its more than 2000 internal and external users, including top retailers and distributors in India. Lava has signed a ten-year deal to avail cloud services out of IBM’s Bangalore data center. IBM will also perform 24/7 monitoring and management through automation of the hosted infrastructure.

“The need for uninterrupted business operations has become crucial for us to ensure enhanced customer engagement and protect critical business data,” said Virendra Kumar Rai, Vice President and Head – IT, Lava. “IBM’s proven expertise in cloud-based virtual recovery provides us a highly resilient infrastructure that will help us mitigate downtime risks and ultimately ensure that we are able to meet the around-the-clock needs of our customers.”

Lava selected IBM due to its reliability, scalability and proven ability to reduce recovery time by up to 40%. Lava is now able to plan for the wide range of issues that could affect operations. In the event of unexpected downtime, Lava can gain 100% functionality within just an hour, a process that is managed remotely.

With competing offering this process would have taken 8-12 hours, greatly impacting the ability to meet the around-the-clock needs of customers. IBM also ensures that Lava can not only provision recovery resources within minutes, but also avoid errors of manual operations. As a result it ensures that Lava can continue its business operations without any disruption to customer service.

IBM SmartCloud VSR services help speed server recovery time and increases reliability of server recovery by leveraging world class automation and cloud tools. It minimizes the risk of failure due to the installation of disparate hardware and provides remote server access tools to help reduce cost and time as well as the inconvenience of travelling to the recovery site.

“It is important for organizations to have a strategic approach to business continuity and resiliency and the answer today is in the cloud,” said Ganesh Margabandhu, General Manager, Global Technology Services, IBM India / South Asia. “In the event of a disaster, a physical recovery approach may drastically increase the risk of data loss while significantly increasing recovery time as well. The IBM SmartCloud VSR solution leverages advanced tools to help enterprises improve business reliability with remote server recovery and flexibility.”
