Microsoft Apps store will make it easier for Android users to find apps from the company across categories like productivity, education, etc.
Microsoft has launched its own app store on the Google Play Store. The store is in the form of an app where users can find all the Android applications from the Redmond-based tech giant in one place. The ‘Microsoft Apps’ store can be downloaded from here. Users will be able to find apps from Microsoft across categories like productivity, casino education, entertainment, communication, news, and more. Users can also see what apps they have already installed and find new apps from the company to download.
With Windows 10, Microsoft sees the OS as more of a service and the idea is to ensure that its apps are used across platforms, which explains why they’ve clubbed together all their Android apps into this form.
While Windows 10 for mobile is yet to roll out fully, the dominance of Android in the mobile OS ecosystem, means that Microsoft has to make its presence felt on the platform. By launching its own app store, the company is making sure that at least its apps like Skype, Words, Excel, Powerpoint are easily accessible to users, even if these users are not on a Windows 10 OS mobile system. Microsoft’s App Store has around 80 apps including apps that have been acquired by the company such as Wunderlist and Sunrise (calender app).
