New Chennai airport terminals open with Juniper Networks solution

Juniper Networks, the industry leader in network innovation, announced that it has deployed a high-performance common use network infrastructure for the new passenger terminals at Chennai airport. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is using Juniper Networks EX series Ethernet switches, integrated with Juniper’s security and routing devices, within its new terminals to support common use applications such as common use terminal equipment (CUTE), passenger information processing systems, flight information display systems (FIDS) and video surveillance. AAI is one of the world’s largest airport operators, managing a total of 125 airports across the country and responsible for the development of the airport infrastructure at these locations.

Chennai Airport is India’s third busiest airport, and its new integrated terminal building, developed by AAI, is part of a massive investment being made in new infrastructure to cope with the explosive growth of aviation in India. The country is currently the world’s ninth largest civil aviation market and is expected to be among the top five within ten years. The campus networks in the new air terminals have been designed by Juniper Networks with scalability at their core. Juniper Networks’ advanced EX series switching technology will ensure performance is maintained when the network transitions from IPv4 to IPv6.Juniper Networks EX4200 ethernet switches form the network access layer in the new airport terminals, providing a high density of wire-speed GbE ports, with power-over-Ethernet for IP network surveillance cameras.

Ravi Chauhan, managing director, India & SAARC, Juniper Networks said, “Airports are critical national infrastructures that are built to last. The Airports Authority of India sets high standards for the equipment it deploys and Juniper Networks’ campus solutions comfortably meet those standards in the areas of performance, security and reliability. The campus networks are also relatively inexpensive to manage, thanks to the fact that they all run on the same Junos operating system, which streamlines network operations and orchestrates security across the infrastructure.”
