Oracle and Government of Goa have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate the Oracle Academy curriculum into the educational programs of the state’s colleges and schools to help inspire the next-generation of technology professionals. This effort will allow Goa’s Ministry of Education to build a strong foundation of technology programs to prepare 18,000 students for successful IT careers, and help meet growing local demand for a highly skilled technology workforce.
As part of this MoU, 250 faculty members will undergo specialized training on the Oracle Academy curriculum that will be delivered to 18,000 students from 113 institutes in Goa, including the state’s engineering colleges, polytechnics, degree colleges as well as secondary and higher secondary schools over the next three years.
The Oracle Academy’s Introduction to Computer Science curriculum includes database design and programming courses and a Java-specific curriculum consisting of four courses (getting Started with Java Using Alice, Creating Java Programs with Greenfoot, Java Fundamentals, and Java Programming) that are aligned to Oracle certification. The ‘Getting Started with Java Using Alice curriculum’ engages students with little or no programming experience to learn basic Java programming concepts using Carnegie Mellon University’s Alice software environment.
In addition, the Oracle Academy’s Advanced Computer Science program is being introduced in all of Goa’s engineering colleges, where students are provided with hands-on access to Oracle database and middleware software and related curriculum. Students gain exposure to Oracle’s world-class software, giving them a competitive advantage.
Oracle Academy is part of Oracle’s corporate citizenship initiative to help deepen students’ interest in the field of computer science and prepare them with industry-relevant skills as they get ready to enter the workforce. The Oracle Academy helps 1.9 million students in 97 countries, including 150,099 students from 441 educational institutions across India, gain industry-relevant skills prior to entering the workplace.
“We want to develop the IT human capital in the state and found a great partner in Oracle. The induction of Oracle Academy into our educational programs will empower our students with the skills required to build successful careers in the growing field of IT,” said Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister, Government of Goa. “Through our association with Oracle, we hope to build the next-generation of skilled IT professionals from Goa who are prepared to contend with the dexterity of the global workforce in this industry.”
“The Oracle Academy supports over 1.9 million students across the globe, offering a comprehensive program designed to help them gain a competitive edge,” said Sandeep Mathur, Managing Director, Oracle India. “We are honored to collaborate with Goa’s Ministry of Education to help foster student knowledge and interest in computer science, engineering and technology and help prepare them for successful IT careers.”
