As India goes increasingly digital, Redis Labs, one of the most popular and successful open source products in the world is seeing increasing adoption in the country. India remains one of the fastest growing markets for Redis Labs, and the company continues to make investments in India to support and grow the opportunity based on the popularity of Redis within the country, from developers to leading companies.
Today, over 8000 customers across the globe and over 50% of Fortune 10 companies use Redis. Redis has also been rated as the number one database in AWS for two consecutive years in Sumo Logic’s research. Redis is also as one of the three most popular container images being deployed.
Mike Anand gives the example of a customer like MyTeam11, one of the largest sports based fantasy platforms in India, which has a high number of concurrent users of more than 15 million. Usually right before the match starts, the rosters are published, so there is a mad dash.
Sachin Loonia, Senior Software Engineer at MyTeam11, explains why a fast database is critical for the firm. “When a particular user creates a team on MyTeam11, there are multiple customized tournaments or leagues that users can join and can create up to 15 teams. The teams can be the same or can be different. It entirely depends on users and when any match is declared all the users who created the team in respective matches go back to the application and try to make changes because now the roster is declared and everybody knows that a particular player is going to play or not going to play. So, every user tries to change their team or tries to create their new team. The playing roster is declared just 30 minutes before the match starts and almost every user will be there on the application for the next 30 minutes. This used to create a very heavy load on our previous database, MSSQL. In case of big matches like IPL because API responses used to get slow as the database used to get stuck. We started exploring new databases and Redis is the best for our use and particular team modules because we have a single user and the single user can create multiple teams.”
Another example is SonyLiv. KBC is extremely popular with many viewers. Redis Enterprise on Google Cloud enables the company to offer real-time performance with low latency. The company also enjoys huge support from SaaS-based firms such as Freshworks, Razorpay and Sharechat. Basically, across all verticals across all sectors, all sized companies.
With a huge rise in digital transformation initiatives and the natural inclination of companies towards the cloud, Redis believes that it has significant opportunities in the Indian market.
