Key Address by G V L Satya Kumar, Managing Director, Centre For Railway Information Systems (CRIS)
Topic: Breakthroughs and Digital Evolution at the CRIS
Key Highlights:
[1] We had four DCs in 1990 and we were the first to start computerisation in the country, in terms of ticketing.
[2] In 2005 we started web ticketing and now we have mobile ticketing.
[3] Our current capacity of handling tickets is 25000 per minute. We are further modernising systems to enhance the capacity.
[4] In 2006, we automated multiple applications of the railways. In the past two decades we see that almost every function of the railways has been digitised.
[5] We have GPS trackers on our 15000 locomotives. Further, we have our RFID readers at over 120 locations.
[6] We are in a process of evaluating a tender to install GPS trackers in our wagons. Also, we are looking to install AI-powered cameras.
