The law commission which advises government on complex legal issues today forayed into the social media domain to help people interact with it directly on issues concerning framing of laws.

Announcing the launch of its facebook, twitter and youtube page, the Law Commission chairman and former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, A P Shah, said that this will help the Commission to “elicit” public opinion on its various projects.

Shah said that the commission was aware of how the internet has revolutionised the field of communication and its growing use has resulted in widespread activism on social media while a good percentage of urban population are active on one or other social media website.

“The Law Commission of India would also like to be part of this growing trend in order to make its presence more prevalent. This will help the commission which works predominantly on a consultative mechanism to elicit public opinion on its various projects.

“With this objective in mind, I am happy to announce the launch of the Commission’s facebook page ‘Law Commission of India’, twitter feed ‘@lawcomindia’ and youtube channel ‘law commission of India,” Shah said in a message.

He also hoped that the citizens of the country will utilise these fora and collaborate with the Commission.

Shah also announced that the Commission has also adopted a logo and thanked Smriti Parsheera for designing it.
