eGovWatch: Online vigilance clearance for government officials
An online mechanism has been started to provide vigilance clearance for posting, promotion and empanelment of senior government officials.
The clearance by Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is needed for senior level positions or empanelment and also for board-level appointments in the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), etc.
For this, CBI is required to provide inputs on officers being considered for such appointments to the anti-corruption watchdog. An online facility to share information on vigilance clearance has been made operational, official sources said.
The move will help in reducing the time taken in this procedure which was earlier being done manually and used to take about three months, they said.
The CVC on an average gets at least 300 reference per month seeking vigilance clearance for officials of All India services — Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS), central services officers and board level appointments in PSUs and banks.
A total of 315 vigilance clearances were processed and issued by the Commission for the board-level appointments last year. These were in addition to about 3,000 such clearances sought in respect of All India Services and Group A officials, the sources said.
