India has been witnessing notable growth in the data center industry and increase in demand for data center services. The digital transformation initiatives of organisations and the Government’s aggressive digital push has given a fillip to the data center industry with focus on data localisation.
Express Computer had an opportunity to speak to Kiran Belsekar, Executive Vice President – CISO & IT Governance, AEGON Life Insurance Co. Ltd, who shared his views on hyperscalers coming to India and the benefits of having a local data center.
Belsekar says, “We have seen a massive surge amongst the large conglomerates who have come into the data center space. While it is a commodity right now, according to me, most of the consumption is done by the hyperscalers who are increasingly coming to India.“
He further mentions that from the perspective of changing regulations, data sovereignty and data localisation, it is highly prudent and has its own perks to set up data centers in India. “Leveraging the matured stacks which the organisations cannot build into their in-house data centers, but the co-locations and the hyperscalers which are coming to India, they are actually getting their advanced technology along which can be seen in the market. This will really help in building Digital India, far more deeper into the segment of Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities,” he points out.
Belsekar believes that setting up data centers locally helps a great deal to have more control and flexibility for organisations and the government entities as well. “So, all this will constitute in making Digital India far more effective in the coming times,” he affirms.
