The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said that due to this, it is constantly demanding specific guidelines and rules for regulation of the e-commerce business in India.
Traders body CAIT has demanded specific guidelines for e-commerce business in the country after Delhi Police sent a notice to e-tailer Flipkart in a case related to online sale of stolen high-end phones.
“The notice issued by Delhi Police to Flipkart on charge of selling stolen mobiles on its e-commerce portal ratified apprehensions of CAIT that e-commerce portals having no control of government are vulnerable to any illegal activity,” CAIT said in a statement.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said that due to this, it is constantly demanding specific guidelines and rules for regulation of the e-commerce business in India. CAIT President B C Bhartia said, “Given the nature of e- commerce business format in India, having no government checks and more lust of making money by adopting all possible means, the portals may also be used by not only militants but also by anti-social elements and can pose a big danger to security of the country”.
It said that government should consult with state governments and formulate a security policy for e commerce and also lay specified guidelines and regulations.
The Delhi Police has sent a notice to Flipkart following the arrest of six persons and recovery of stolen high-end mobile phones worth around Rs 1 crore, many of which were allegedly sold through the e-tailer’s website.
