Taking a leaf out of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s book — who used the social media extensively to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections — the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has decided to experiment with the modern mode of communication.

Taking a step in that direction, the Sangh has appointed several ‘sampark pramukh’ or ‘prachar pramukh’ (communications representatives) across the country. It is now looking to organisations associated with it to promote its ideology.
In fact, its Delhi prachar pramukh Rajeev Tuli has already asked the Delhi BJP to help out in expanding RSS’s ideological base and promote its views.
At a recent meeting of the Samvad Cell, which was held at the BJP headquarters and attended by Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay, Tuli asked the professionals to read up on the RSS’s background and study its ideology, a source said. Tuli also emphasised on how the RSS was looking to expand their presence in the virtual world and connecting with the people on the social media forum.
Asked how the cell was planning to promote the RSS, a senior member of the cell said they did not have content of their own, but would borrow it from organisations associated with the BJP.
“We source our content from the ideological parent or organisations associated with the BJP through its ideology. The second source of content is from top leaders of the party. Every tweet or Facebook post we update is vetted by senior leaders. For Delhi, the unit chief clears the content that needs to be put up online,” a senior member of the cell said.
“We have been working on the Lok Sabha level and now we have been asked to do it at the Assembly level. The party is thinking of expanding the cell’s area of working,” another senior member of the cell said.
