Tech giant HP today has announced the launch of its big data platform HAVEn for the Indian market. The big data platform HAVEn comes with the power of analytics has got its name based on the key four technologies Hadoop (H), HP Automy(A), HP Vertica (V), Enterprise security (E). Letter ‘n’ means that the platform can support n number of applications. HAVEn platform is available on-premise as well as on cloud both private and public.
The latest offering is targeted at end users as well as developers, where the platform can be used by organizations to make their entry into big data space and also allows developers to built applications on top of it. HP is the first tech company to come out with big data platform in the industry, the company claimed.
Beside the HAVEn platform launch, HP also expanded its the big data portfolio with additional products that include HP Operations Analytics, HP Vertica Community Edition, HP Operations Analytics, HP Autonomy Legacy Data Cleanup.
HP Operations Analytics allows IT operations in organization to leverage the power of analytics and bring high efficiency and quality to services. HP Vertica Community Edition is a free downloadable
software targeted for user communities but it doesn’t come with any support. While, HP Autonomy Legacy Data Cleanup lets organizations to analyze old data, reduce costs and risks by cleaning up legacy data while driving value from big data.
According to Amit Chatterjee, Country Director, HP Software India, country has a big opportunity in big data on the analytics side, as organizations that are using traditional technologies are unable to manage their volumes of data in order to get insights and make business decision in time.
With enormous data generation happening across organizations that include both human generated like emails, tweets, etc., as well as machine generated like log files and others, enterprises are unable to keep up with the pace of data growth.
Legacy database are unable to pace up with the magnitude of data, data integration becomes highly time consuming and security remains the concerns for most organizations. While the demand for real time insight remains today, traditional database applications are not equipped to big data needs of organizations, according to Chatterjee.
In India, the big data is still at an early adoption stage compared to other countries. Quoting Gartner, Chatterjee said the the big data market in India is around $200 million and is expected to touch $1 billion by 2015.
According to a HP commissioned study conducted by Coleman Parkes Research Ltd, nearly half of (47%) of companies quizzed in India said they will spend at least 10% of their IT budget on big data this year.
Over one third companies surveyed believed that big data is the largest competitive differentiator for their organizations. However, the study revealed that around 12% organizations have failed with a big data initiative they had implemented because of various factors including technology, skills, vision, CIOs and others.
HP’s HAVEn platform is open nature, supports any hardware and company is partnering with BI partners to push the new offerings. The platform is available in Indian market.
