National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), in association with NASSCOM Foundation, AMDOCS, Mahratta Chamber Of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA), Software Exporters’ Association of Pune (SEAP) and Greenscape Eco Management, concluded the 18-day long, green IT campaign, My City – Let us make it Green, in Pune, to encourage green practices among businesses, their workforce and the government.
This initiative was aimed at creating awareness amongst employees of the IT industry and promoted appropriate recycling of e-waste through NASSCOM’s e-waste Collection Drive. Greenscape, the logistic support for the drive, had set-up e-waste collection bins at the campuses of twelve companies like Nihilent Technologies, Zensar Technologies, Persistent Systems, Tech Mahindra, KPIT Cummins, Qlogic, Saama, Steria, Impact Systems, Ascent Informatics, Tata Technologies and SQS who were also part of the campaign.
“India is emerging as a significant generator of e-waste. Managing end-of-life of ICT equipment must be treated as a moral business responsibility. It is imperative that we set up appropriate management measures to prevent the hazards and mishaps due to mismanagement of e-wastes. The My City – Let us Make It Green’ initiative is aimed at keeping the city, free of of e-Waste,” said Dr. Ganesh Natrajan, Past Chairman, NASSCOM and Vice-Chairman and CEO, Zensar Technologies.
Recognizing the need for corporate India to recycle and reduce e-waste in the country, NASSCOM Foundation has re-designed its BiG Bridge initiative to facilitate donor companies with effective system for a seamless transfer and overall disposing cycle. The Foundation launched the BiG Bridge program in April 2009. The BiG Bridge program provides a complete IT donation and disposal facility to Indian companies, giving new purpose to redundant computers and peripherals.
