McDonald’s to give virtual reality (VR) cardboard Happy Googles with Happy Meals
The Happy Googles are formed by tearing a portion of the specially designed Happy Meal box into a foldable outer shell. An included pair of VR lenses are inserted into said with, presumably, a parent’s smartphone.
McDonald.s has joined the virtual reality community by launching Happy Googles, a VR display glasses like Google Cardboard. The goggles are created in part by deconstructing a Happy Meal box. This will initially be launched in 14 restaurants in Sweden over the first two weekends of March.
The development was first reported by the Ad Week. Only 3,500 headsets will be made available, making them a collector’s item for VR and McDonald’s historians and superfans. McDonald’s Sweden is first in the world to develop the Happy Meal box into Virtual Reality goggles and the idea came about, quite simply, by folding the usual Happy Meal box in a new way. The result, with the addition of a pair of lenses, turned into the VR Happy Goggles. When combined with a smartphone, the Happy Goggles lower the threshold so that everybody can afford to experience VR.
The McDonald’s is also considering a global rollout of Happy Googles. Look at the video below to find out how it works:
Together with the Happy Goggles McDonald’s is also launching a VR skiing game “Slope Stars”, a 360° ski experience allowing the user to open the doors to a world of fantasy, fun and how to stay safe in the ski slopes.
