CtrlS Datacenters Ltd, the world’s fastest growing Rated-4 datacenter company, is improving the performance and security of the Internet’s Domain Name System (DNS) in India. Working with the US-based Packet Clearing House (PCH), CtrlS has launched a PCH DNS Services Cluster at its Hyderabad 1 datacenter, which will improve network operators’ access to critical DNS services, handling up to 100,000 DNS queries per second.
DNS root servers are name servers at the apex of the DNS tree, and the entire Internet. They are the first step in the name resolution of any domain name, where they translate human readable web addresses into IP addresses. Without DNS Root Servers, one cannot access any online content or even send an email. The action happens millions of times a day.
The PCH AS 42 and AS 3856 are now live in CtrlS’ Hyderabad 1. PCH is one of the world’s leading DNS network operators, and this launch will enable better internet and DNS infrastructure for CtrlS’ customers as well as for India market in general. It improves overall latency for customers and keeps DNS traffic within an area.
Royce Thomas, Chief Business Officer, CtrlS Datacenters, said, “This is a significant milestone not only for our team, but also for the Indian internet ecosystem. Improved DNS promotes a free and open internet, which is key to drive India’s digital economy. With the successful deployment of PCH and the services they bring, we affirm our commitment to enhancing our region’s digital / network infrastructure and expanding our reach.”
He added, “This strategic move, doesn’t end in Hyderabad. CtrlS is preparing to go live with PCH nodes in Noida (within a week), Bangalore, Lucknow, and Patna. Such deployments strengthen our vision of providing high-quality, robust digital services throughout the country, bringing us closer to creating a truly pan-India network.”
Ashish Ahuja, Chief Technology Officer, CtrlS Datacenters, stated, “This will enable us to provide faster, more reliable, and secure internet access to millions of users. We are excited by this development and look forward to expanding our services even further. Hosting DNS at our datacenters help us in speeding response time and improved network performance as it reduces the latency between the end-users and the Root Servers.”
Over the last 22 years, PCH served 124 ccTLDs (country code top-level domains), 43 GOV.ccs (Government central civil services), and 23 MIL.ccs as well as select brand TLDs (top-level domains), such as .apple, .bmw with 265 datacenter locations at 119 countries around the globe. Among most peering networks globally, PCH holds a leading position.
Andrea Cima, Chief Operating Officer, PCH, stated, “We are excited about supporting the enhancement of the DNS resolution in India, by deploying a PCH node at CtrlS Hyderabad. A big thanks to CtrlS team for making this possible.” He further added, “We will continue building DNS infrastructure in cooperation with CtrlS Datacenters to further strengthen the support to the Indian internet community.”
