Furthering its digital outreach, the government has now launched a portal through which the public can make appointments with government officers online, without having to stand in long queues or wait for references.
The portal, myvisit.gov.in, is managed by the National Informatics Centre and is part of the ‘Digital India’ initiative of the government.
MyVisit is a cloud-based application software integrated at all central government offices and ministries through which even the bureaucrats can interact with their visitors. The visitor details are automatically saved in a database as well.
The portal has a simple registration form with the help of which citizens can make appointments with government officers.
The prospective visitor has to fill in his/her name, along with address, gender, age, e-mail id, cell phone number, identity proof and an Aadhar number.
An Aadhar card is a must. He/she also has to fill in details of the person they want to meet, the department he/she belongs and the purpose of the visit. Once the form is filled, the visitor will receive a registration number that can help track the approval status of the request, quite similar to a system of tracking RTI requests.
Once the officer to be visited receives the request, he/she can verify and authenticate it and then decide upon its approval.
Once the request is approved, it’s status will be communicated to the visitor through SMS/e-mail.The website, which is quite easy and simple to manoeuvre, aims to bridge the gap between the government and the common man. It is yet another step in the long line of efforts by the government and PM Narendra Modi to ensure its programmes are well percolated down to the public through the internet.
