Some of the 2016 flagship smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Xiaomi Mi5, LG G5, HTC 10, LeEco LeMax 2, and Sony Xperia X are powered by Snapdragon 820. We will have to wait and watch which phones run the new Snapdragon 821
Qualcomm has launched Snapdragon 821 processor. It is, however, unclear which smartphones will be powered by the new chipset. Mark Shedd, Director, Marketing claims the 821 is designed to deliver a 10 per cent performance increase over Snapdragon 820.
If rumours are anything to be believed, the new Nexus smartphones – Sailfish and Marlin – could come with Snapdragon 821. According to Android Police, we could also see the new processor in the US variant of Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The information, however, needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as none of these companies have confirmed the same. Shedd said users can expect commercial devices powered by the 821 in the second half of 2016.
“The Snapdragon 821 is engineered to deliver a 10% performance increase over the 820 with the Qualcomm Kryo quad-core CPU, reaching speeds up to 2.4GHz,” Mark Shedd said. Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 includes all the updates of 820 that improves the user experience for mobile imaging, virtual reality, battery life, and connectivity speed. The 821 will help ‘set a new bar’ for smartphones, tablets, mobile VR and other new devices, says Shedd.

According to rumours, HTC Marlin is the flagship Nexus while Sailfish will be the smaller sibling like Nexus 5X last year. According to Android Police, HTC ‘Marlin’ Nexus will feature a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display. We had earlier reported the smartphone will be powered by next variant of Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset.
