With the promise to simplify users experience with its minimalist yet futuristic features, the China-based ZOPO recently launched a budget smartphone Zopo Hero 1. Priced at Rs 11,999, the handset comes with a 5-inch HD IPS display, 13.2-megapixel rear camera, 16 GB storage and battery capacity of 2500mAh. Company claims that Hero 1 offers powerful performance, smoother operation and long battery life. Let us explore the finer details of the device.
The look and feel of the device is almost similar to Zopo Speed 7 Plus which was launched last year. The body that is made of plastic with metal strips running along the top and bottom of the rear add elegance to overall design and look. The front is dominated by 5-inch IPS display, which offer a resolution of 720×1280 pixels. The display is sharp and colourful. The front also houses a front camera on the top, while three capacitive touch keys are placed in the bottom. There is space for a 3.5mm headset jack on the top edge, while the bottom edge has space for micro USB charger. The power and volume rocker keys are placed at the right edge while the left is free from any distraction. The detachable rear panel is home to Zopo branding along with rear camera and LED flash. With the thickness of 8.65 mm and weight of 136 gms, the device is neither too slim nor too heavy. It is comfortable to hold and operate, and is non-slippery at the same time.
The Zopo Hero 1 runs on Android 5.0.1 and its entrails are powered by quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor. The device comes with 2 GB RAM and has 16 GB capacity for internal storage that can be expanded upto 64 GB with the help of microSD card. During the review period, the device handle multi-tasking and graphic intensive games quite smoothly. There was no serious stutter or lag while switching between the apps.
On the camera front, Zopo Hero 1 comes with a 13.2-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. Both the camera is decent and take pictures with average quality in regular light. However, when you see pictures with full zoom, you could find lot of visible noise in the images. There is nothing distinctive in the camera division to explore.
The device supports 4G LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi, 3G, 2G, Bluetooth and dual standby SIM. It is packed with a replaceable 2500 mAh battery which offer decent standby time and could last between 5-7 hours with multitasking and continuous data usage.
Overall, the Zopo Hero 1 is a decent 4G enabled budget smartphone with minimalist features, good design and decent performance but some interesting options such as LeEco Le 1s, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 32GB, Lenovo K4 Note, Samsung Galaxy J7 are available in the same price range.
